Although the size and shape of Clipper machines and blades varies, fundamentally they all do the same job using the same principle of having a static guide blade and a moving cutting blade. Dog blades are commonly an assembled, pre-tensioned unit whilst horse blades are separate and rely on the user to assemble them onto the machine and set the tension. In all cases the blades need to be sharp and matched - guide to cutter. Some sharpeners grind the blades perfectly flat whilst others grind a shallow curve into both parts which is called a hollow grind.
Quality Sharpening Services uses a dedicated Clipper blade sharpening machine that produces a hollow grind on the blades. This is an American machine that is well proven having been used in the USA, by professional sharpening companies for many, many years. It produces excellent results quickly. It allows the skilled operator to remove just sufficient material to get the perfect cutting edge which means blades sharpened like this will have increased lifespan and you will need to buy fewer of them, saving you money.

These blades such as Andis, Oster and Wahl A5 type come as a compact assembled unit that must be taken apart to be sharpened. In doing so each part is checked for wear or damage prior to sharpening commencing. Common types of damage are worn or missing plastic blade guides, broken/missing teeth from either blade or that the blade is worn beyond repair. If we find any issues we will contact you to see how you wish to proceed. If all is well the blade will be cleaned prior to sharpening. Both the Guide and cutter plates will be sharpened on a Nebraska Blades Clipper blade hone. This is a well proven machine dedicated to producing an accurate hollow grind to both parts. Once this is done the blades are cleaned again then lubricated and assembled ensuring the correct alignment and spring tension. The blade is then run on our own clipper and tested on fake fur to check the cutting performance. Once approved it is cleaned again and packaged into the container supplied or a new foam lined plastic container which protects it during transit and is useful for storage. Please use this container whenever returning blades to us for subsequent service.

There are many different tyes and makes of Horse clipper machines and they generally each have a dedicated blade configuration. However, most are 2 separate blades that must be assembled to the machine by the user and the tension set using a screw and spring arrangement. We only require the 2 parts of the blade which we will clean and inspect on receipt. As Horse blades are used much less frequently than dog blades they are often rusty but normally serviceable. We use the cleaning wheels to remove the rust prior to sharpening both parts on the Nebraska Blades machine. Once this is done we clean the blades then lubricate and test on our own clipper - assuming compatibility. The blades will then be packaged into the container supplied or a new foam lined plastic contained with a foam separator to ensure no damage occurs during transit. This container is useful for your own storage and should be used to return the blades to us for subsequent sharpening.
We take the utmost care to ensure that your blade reaches you in the condition that it left us. We take the utmost care to ensure that your blade reaches you in the condition that it left us. If you supply a suitable container, e.g. the one supplied with the item originally, then we will return the blades in that. If a suitable container has not been supplied then we have developed a dedicated range of plastic containers to suit each blade type. The containers are foam lined to prevent movement and any damage to the blade. A2 Horse type blades have a foam interleaf that prevents the 2 parts 'chattering' during transit. The containers will be shipped to you inside a padded jiffy bag. Please use the containers to store and protect your blades and for sending them back to us for future servicing.
